Our local group in Surrey is linked to the main Awakened Heart Sangha whose principal teacher and spiritual director is Lama Shenpen Hookham. She teaches in a lineage of Tibetan Buddhism deriving from Mahamudra and Dzogchen teachings in the Kagyu and Nyingma schools.

The Awakened Heart Sangha is an international Sangha with members worldwide and local groups throughout the UK. The Sangha’s base is the Hermitage of the Awakened Heart retreat centre near Criccieth, Gwynedd, North Wales, where Lama Shenpen lives and teaches from.

She is a skilled Tibetan translator with over 50 years experience and and comes from a wonderful lineage of teachers. She has produced a study course that is accessible and engaging for Western dharma practitioners. At the core of her teachings is the distance learning course called Discovering the Heart of Buddhism, part of the Living the Awakened Heart Training, which offers a highly experiential and jargon-free approach to the practice of meditation and the development of insight.

Members of the sangha have a clear path of study and practice, with the opportunity for a lifetime of practice, utilising distance learning, one to one mentoring, online courses, meditation and teaching days, longer retreat opportunities.

The type of meditation we practice as a Sangha is called ‘Formless Meditation’, to find out more about this visit www.howtomeditate.org.uk   an online meditation resource from the AHS.
